The Nigerian army have recorded a feat in its fight against the Boko Harm insurgents in the North-east – This follows the rescue of some women and girls who were abducted by the insurgents on Wednesday, March 23 in Sabongari Madagali, Borno state Captain A.O. Fadare, the public relations officer of 28 task force brigade, Mubi in Adamawa, disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday, March 25.
Fadare however could not confirm the number of those rescued. He noted that the women were rescued as soldiers were pursuing the insurgents. “I am still trying to verify from Madagali as you know, the operation is still on,” Fadare said.
The women were said to have been taken from the bush while in search of firewood. Others were kidnapped from the river while fishing. A source said two women managed to escape the abductors by pretending to have drowned. “The two women who are in real state of trauma told us that the suspected Boko Haram insurgents had a field day carting away the women when their escorts ran away for their dear lives.” He said two vigilante operatives who escorted the women to the bush fled on sighting the heavily armed men, who arrived good numbers. “They left the women to their own devices as the gunmen were left unchallenged leading to the abduction of the said women,” he said. Meanwhile, the Nigerian army has on Thursday, March 24, said that it will subject recent video by Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau to forensic analysis in order to prove its authenticity. In a video published by Leadership, early hours of Thursday, Shekau, who was previously rumoured to have been killed, advising his followers to “surrender to save themselves.”
