The Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) has stated that it would appear before the commission of enquiry set by the government over the bloody clash between Shi’ites and the army only on one condition.
According to the Shi’ites sect, it is ready to appear before the commission only if its leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and other members are released.
The Nation reports that at the weekend the group embarked on a peaceful demonstration in Kaduna state.
Speaking with journalists after the demonstration, Murktar Abdullahi Sherief stressed that the members of the IMN would never take arms against the constituted government in the country. He added that the sect would never engage in any act of violence to redress the killing of its members in Zaria.
According to Sherief, the movement will engage all legal means to see that justice is done to the members
who were killed by the soldiers of the Nigerian army.

He also noted that the IMN does not have confidence in the judicial commission set up by the Kaduna state government because some of the members of the commission are enemies of the movement who openly condemn the group.
“As said earlier, one of the conditions for us to appear before the commission is for the government to release of leader Zakzakky and others was held unconditionally.
“We are saying 730 of our members have yet to be accounted for since the incident and the corpse of those killed are still with the army let them release the corpse to us for burial in line with Islamic rites,” he said.
Meanwhile, well-informed sources have revealed that El-Zakzaky has been flown abroad for medical attention.
The embattled leader was flown to France for treatment of gun shot injuries he suffered during the encounter between his supporters and members of the Nigerian army last year.
