— Title-holders Etoile Sahel of Tunisia boast the most impressive play-offs record among the 16 contenders with five overall victories in five ties. 

— Something has to give when FUS Rabat of Morocco host Stade Malien of Mali after a 0-0 first leg as both clubs have been overall winners of all their previous play-offs. 

— Al Ahly Tripoli of Libya, Medeama of Ghana and Young Africans of Tanzania have each featured in the play-offs once before and all finished overall losers.
