There was serious pandemonium in Kenya on Wednesday, March 29, when a lion reportedly escaped from a zoo and attacked a passer-by. According to AFP, the lion was subsequently shot dead by the wildlife rangers while it was roaming outside Nairobi, the Kenyan capital on Wednesday. Reports say this is the fourth time this year that lions have roamed outside Nairobi National Park and in less than two weeks, this makes it the second time that someone has been injured by the beast. A Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) ranger reportedly shot the black-maned animal after it hurt a passer-by near Isinya, with a spokesperson, Paul Udoto, saying: “The stray lion that was roaming in Isinya has been shot dead after injuring a person.” According to him, the injured man had been taken to hospital and the animal shot after it (had) become wild.
A 63-year old man was, early this month, injured when a lion clawed at him close to a busy highway where motorists were honking their horns and snapping photographs since the park is not entirely fenced to enable traditional migration by animals in search of grazing.
